Facts What is cyber hate?

Cyber hate is a democratic problem that must be taken seriously and that silences people in relation to who we are, and what we represent.

The term cyber hate is often used to describe hateful, violating, or mean comments that occur in comment sections, forums, blogs, and on other websites or social media — so called cyber rooms.

These can be perceived as threats, violations, or harassment. When and how they are perceived is up to you. The law does not differentiate between threats, violations, or harassment on the internet or in the rest of society (the offline world), and it should be reported to the police. You can get help identifying if you have been subjected to a crime here at the Cyber Hate Assistant.

Your experience is what matters

Even if not all violations are against the law, they are still serious and nothing that you should accept as a part of your online presence. If you are in school, the school has an obligation and responsibility for you, even online. Even as an employee or volunteer, your employer, organization, or association has a responsibility and obligation to help you deal with the cyber hate that might be a consequence of the work that you do online.
